Consumers
what are consumers
Consumers are the living organisms that eat other organisms that produce food. Those consumers are called primary consumers. Consumers that prey on other consumers are called secondary consumers. (e.i The rabbit eats the grass. The wolf eat the rabbit. Therefore the rabbit is primary and the wolf is secondary) In this habitat, the majority of the consumers are secondary because of the lack of sunlight and vegetation not a lot of photosynthesis happens down there.

Primary Consumers
Vent Shrimp
Habitat: Deep Ocean Depths
Status:UN-threatened Consumes: Algae and Plankton Adaption: They have light sensing organs that lead them to ocean vents to keep warm. (mini underwater volcano that produce heat) |
anemones Fish
Habitat: Fishing Ocean Depths
Status: UN-threatened Consumes: Algae and Plankton Adaption: Type: Predation When ever they are threatened they hide in anemones (A plant that stings organisms that come in contact with the plant) The clown fish is immune to this so it hide in it to get away from predators |
Krill
Habitat: Deep Ocean Depths
Status: UN-threatened Consumes: Plankton Description: A krill is approx. 13mm in diameter and has a main diet of plankton. It eats about a pound of krill on a daily basis. A Krill could live in freezing conditions, but reproducing is much more slow than 0 degrees Celsius. |
Secondary Consumers
jelly fishHabitat: Deep Ocean Depths
Status: UN-threatened Consumes: Small Fish, Brine Shrimp, Fish Eggs, etc. Adaption: Has jelly like skeleton to resit the pressure of the of the water around them. |
Angler FishHabitat: Deep Ocean Depths
Status: UN-threatened Consumes: Barracuda, Small Fish etc. Adaption: At the end of the dorsal spine (the thing on top of their heads) the tip glows. From the lack of light down in the trench vision is very limited. The light is reflected by translucent organisms which helps the angler target it prey. |
BarracudaHabitat: Fishing Ocean Depths
Status: UN-threatened Consumes: Clown Fish, Small Fish, Shrimp etc. Adaption: Type:Predation If a barracuda gets threaten they could camouflage with sea grass. To escape the predator. |
